Deploying the lockdown kiosk via MDM

If your devices are running the IMPULSE Wireless Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution, a lockdown kiosk can be activated to allow only access to the apps and functions designated by admin. The kiosk can also force a particular app (eg. the IMPULSE Wireless PTT app) to always be in the foreground.

The lockdown kiosk is called Surelock, and is integrated as part of the SureMDM Nix client app which runs on your device to lock down and provide remote support for the device. The SureMDM Nix app on your device communicates back to the SureMDM MDM Hub running in our cloud on secure servers in Sydney. SureLock, SureMDM and other related products including SureFox (lockdown web browser) are developed by 42Gears, who we have been partnered with for many years.

Here are the steps to follow to enable the integrated SureLock lockdown kiosk once you have successfully provisioned the SureMDM Nix client on your device and successfully enrolled it in our SureMDM Hub server.

1. Use your credentials to access the SureMDM Hub device admin console

2. Select the device(s) you wish to deploy the SureLock lockdown kiosk to, and click "Apply"

3. Select to apply the job "Integrated Surelock Launch," and click "Apply"

4. On the Android device, you will now need to configure SureMDM Nix Client as the homescreen. This prompt should come up automatically and guide you through the process.

- On the fist SureLock screen, tap"OK Got It"

- Tap SureMDM Agent to set it as the Home app

- Tap Always

On some devices, the prompt may come up again and you may need to tap Always a second time.

Your lockdown Kiosk will now be active on your Android device.

4. Back in the SureMDM Hub Console, deploy the job to set the preconfigured SureLock settings. As before, select your device and click Apply, then selectthe job to deploy.

5. Your SureLock kiosk lockdown settings will be applied on your device. From when you deploy the job to when the settings are fully applied should be less than one minute. If the device is offline, it will receive and apply the new settings when it is next online again, provided SureMDM Agent and the SureLock Kiosk are both correctly set up and activated.
